Grine Felder (Green Fields)
Director Edgar G. Ulmer
An ascetic young scholar ventures into the Lithuanian countryside, searching for the city of “true Jews.” The most critically acclaimed and beloved of American Yiddish talkies, Edgar G. Ulmer’s soulful open-air adaptation of Peretz Hirshbein’s classic play heralded the Golden Age of Yiddish cinema. Green Fields celebrates an idyllic world of tribal wholeness and innate piety. No other movie has ever represented the shtetl with such lyricism.
CAN YOU HEAR ME? ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN WOMEN FIGHT FOR PEACE
Director - Lilly Rivlin
“Can You Hear Me? Israeli and Palestinian Women Fight for Peace,” is the first documentary to explore in depth the role of Israeli and Palestinian women peace activists dealing with one of the world’s oldest conflicts. Though prospects for peace have ebbed and flowed between Israelis and Palestinians, women peace activists have worked consistently to bring an end to the bloodshed that has brought so much anguish to both sides. No matter how desperate the political situation seemed these women never stopped communicating with each other. They come together in their bereavement over the loss of loved ones and to demand a better future for their children and grandchildren. There is bonding, there is friction, there are differences of opinion. But most of all it is a story about women who have hope and keep on trying to hear each other.

Director - Avishai Mekonen
Shmuel Bero and Yossi Vassa are two young Israeli comedians of Ethiopian origin who perform both in Hebrew and Amharic; Shmuel plays minor roles in the Habime National theatre while Yossi serves in the Israeli army theatre. While dreaming of cross over success among Hebrew speaking audiences, the duo takes their Amharic act out on the road to small Ethiopian communities. Through the power of laughter, these audiences encounter never before seen reflections of their own everyday lives, one which addresses the ties, conflicts and ambivalences of their experiences in Israel.
Alive Day Memories
Produced and Directed by Ellen Goosenberg Kent
Executive Producers Jim Gandolfini and Sheila Nevins
This moving documentary surveys the physical and emotional cost of war through soldiers' memories of their "Alive Day Memories," the day in Iraq when they survived near-fatal wounds. In a war that has left more than 25,000 wounded, the film looks at a new generation of veterans from Iraq. For the first time in American history, 90% of the wounded survive their injuries, but more than half the injuries are too severe to permit a return to active military service. James Gandolfini executive produces and conducts interviews with ten soldiers who reveal their feelings on the future as they come to terms with their severe disabilities and the meaning of their service.
Recognized
Director - Ori Kleiner
Recognized focuses on the fragmented lives of Israel's Bedouin population residing in the southern Negev Desert. It calls attention to the illusive governmental policies and actions intended to systematically diminish the livelihood of this group of citizens and further alienate them from their culture, land, and ultimately their civilian status.
