"What makes volunteering in a synagogue different from the many other worthwhile and valuable organizations, such as museums or parent-teacher organizations, which we can lend our abilities to? When we become a volunteer in our synagogue, we become a builder of a k'hilah k'doshah, a sacred community. In a world where we may feel increasingly isolated, our synagogue is a place where we are known by name. In a world where we may have little time for reflection, our synagogue is a place of spiritual fulfillment. In a world where we are too often preoccupied with the moment, our synagogue is a place for tradition. In other words, connection. In our role as volunteer, each of us has the opportunity to help make sacred connections. When we greet someone by name, the world becomes a little less isolated. When we sing in the choir or learn to chant Torah, we help bring God's words into our communities. When we serve on the Religious School Committee, we are afforded a precious glimpse into the future. When we volunteer in our synagogues, we take part in the sacred task of creating a house of assembly, a house of prayer, and a house of study." from Volunteers -- The Builders of our Sacred Communities by Rabbi Victor S. Appell
We invite all who are interested to help us build a k'hilah k'doshah - a sacred community - at the Village Temple. There are numerous opportunities for participation at all different levels of involvement. From spending an occasional Saturday helping out in the Soup Kitchen to joining one of our many committees; from visiting sick or homebound congregants to delivering Shalach Manot baskets on Purim; from ushering at Shabbat services to writing articles for The Shalom - these are just a few examples of ways you can make sacred connections with our congregation.
If you would like to find out more about volunteering, please call the Village Temple office. Let us know what your interests are and we will make sure you get connected to the right people.
