Education Director's Corner

Shalom!

Welcome to The Village Temple Religious School's webpage! Our school has a long and proud history, but that is not enough! As a community of learners we constantly improve the ways in which we approach learning and make the process of Talmud Torah, the learning and teaching of Judaism, vital and inspirational. The goal of the Village Temple Religious School is to provide a strong foundation and the necessary skills upon which our children can develop and mature as knowledgeable Jews.

There are many things happening in our Religious School and just as many opportunities for learners of all ages to find something of interest and get involved. The first Bar/Bat Mitzvah Survival Course in February was a huge success. More than 20 parents of 5th, 6th and 7th graders participated in a series of lessons on Hebrew, Jewish Liturgy and History of Bar/Bat Mitzvah ritual led by Alex, Daniel, and Rabbi Koster. We asked questions, searched for answers together, experimented with new learning techniques and had a great time.

I hope that all of the participants had the opportunity to realize that learning can be a fun and enjoyable experience, which is exactly the notion that is being incorporated in our Religious School curriculum. It was also very unusual for the whole group to see our beloved Village Temple through a gated window from the Police building across the street. The administration of the Police Athletic League deserves a hearty Todah Rabbah for giving us the key to the building and making the classes possible. We will be offering another series of two sessions for those parents of 5th, 6th and 7th grades who could not make it in February. The upcoming sessions of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Survival Course will be held on April 6th and April 13th from 9am - 12pm.

I urge those of you who have not attended Synaplex Shabbat at the Village Temple to make an effort to do so as soon as possible. There are just two Synaplex Shabbatot remaining this school year and the themes are amazing. Don’t miss this whole new way to celebrate Shabbat. Bring yourselves, your spouses and your friends and get ready to let your voices soar as we learn the wonderful new songs and tunes that are breathing a new sense of spirituality into the services. And remember that we have age-appropriate programs for kids of all ages too, so you do not have to worry about that. Just look at the flyers and postcards that you receive and respond to the Evites. I am looking forward to seeing you at these events!

B’shalom
