The Village Temple Sisterhood is a multi-generational group of dynamic women. Together, we serve the Village Temple community by offering supportive programs that enhance the warmth of our worship services and the connectedness of all Jews. We also present lectures and organize other events throughout the year, often in conjunction with holidays. Sisterhood sponsors flowers on the bimah and refreshments at the Oneg at many Shabbat evening services. Our members present Kiddush cups to the B’nai Mitzvah students, so they can bring Shabbat into their homes each week. We hold monthly meetings designed to inform and inspire our members, and welcome all women and men of the Village Temple to attend.
From our Mid-Summer Night’s Supper to our Chanukah Brunch, our members are actively translating the principles of Judaism into concern and action. As a member of Sisterhood, you will make your life more spiritual, more meaningful and more fun, while also meeting and making new friends. Join us! We are not your mother’s Sisterhood!
Sisterhood News
Sisterhood’s members and friends are the heart of The Village Temple. This became very clear when our dear friend and long-time member Harriet Zimmer was hospitalized and then spent about three months in rehabilitation at a local nursing home. It was gratifying to Harriet – and to many of her friends and family – to know that the members and friends of Sisterhood, and The Village Temple as a whole, stepped up to the plate. With a regular schedule of visitors to help her eat, and keep her company, Harriet’s spirits were buoyed. She has made great strides, literally, and we are pleased that she is returning to her home. Thank you to all who visited, called and sent cards.
Upcoming Event:
Wednesday, March 26 at 6:30 pm: Still Doing It: The Intimate Lives of Women Over 65
Join the Sisterhood in watching and discussing a fascinating documentary. What is love like for women as we grow older? How do relationships change? In this provocative documentary, several older women recount their views on love. They express with startling honesty and humor how they feel about themselves, sex, and love in later life and the poignant realities of aging. Whether you are 25 or 75, chances are love and relationships are important to you now and will remain important in the future. Let’s explore these subjects together. Following the movie, Brenda Lewis, a psychotherapist specializing in relationships and intimacy issues, will lead a discussion. FOR WOMEN OVER 21 ONLY. Contact Janet Falk for more information at sisterhood@villagetemple.org
Membership:
Sisterhood hosts a lively series of monthly events of interest to women, men, parents, students and members of the community. From lectures to films to participatory activities, there is something for everyone. Of course, it would not be Chanukah without the delicious latkes at our Chanukah Brunch. As is our custom, we will lead an Erev Shabbat service.
You can learn a new skill and develop new interests, make friends and participate in temple life by joining Sisterhood. We welcome women (and men) of all ages. Our dues of $36 support monthly programs, as well as providing the flowers on the bimah for Shabbat services and the Oneg several times each month. Contact Marjorie Blackman at mom@whizziwig.com.
Recent Events:
The Sisterhood kicked off 2008 with a new food event on Wednesday, January 30 at 6:30 pm. Our January 30th Heritage Dinner featured an array of dairy dishes, and the event was chaired by Dee Yalowitz. Wine flowed, memories were shared, and a booklet is being finalized so the recipes can be brought into our own kitchens.
We send our thoughts to our Sisterhood members and friends and wish them good health: Pearl Gottlieb, Molly Lipsman, Lynne Schiller, Harriet Zimmer and Eddie Jones.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Janet Falk, Sisterhood President

When is a good time to contribute to the Nettie Kaplan Flower Fund? When you have a birthday to celebrate, a Yahrzeit to remember, a 100 on a Science test. Any amount is appropriate for a donation to the Flower Fund, which means our bimah will be beautifully decorated at services.
