Soup Kitchen
 |
The Village Temple Soup Kitchen has been an integral component of our social action responsibilities since 1987 when a few volunteers began distributing home-made sandwiches. Since that time, we have grown dramatically and our present attendance is approximately 12,000 needy people a year. Needless to say, our continued success comes from the dedication of our volunteers and New York Cares who work tirelessly every Saturday to prepare and serve a mid-day meal, but from time to time we must acknowledge the important financial support we receive from various donors who make it all possible. In this past year we have received very generous annual grants from the UJA Federation of New York, America's Second Harvest, and The New York University Community Fund. Individual monetary donations are always helpful and appreciated. We also receive weekly food donations from Sullivan Street Bakery, D'Agostino's Market, Au Bon Pain, Puerto Rico Coffee and Whole Foods (our newest in-kind donor) all of which supplement the purchase of bread, coffee, and desserts. Please feel free to call J. Dean Chavooshian at 646-857-8258
to learn more about how you and your family members of any age can join the Saturday morning volunteers in this noble and important effort to make the world a better place. We are certain that you will think that it's fun and rewarding.
