8th Grade: Shleimut — Growing Into Yourself. Eighth grade is a powerful year of transition, as students begin to ask deeper questions about who they are, where they belong, and what kind of person they want to become.

Our 8th grade teen program will focus on shleimut, the Jewish value of individual wellbeing and wholeness. Through Moving Traditions’ engaging curriculum, students will explore identity, friendship, peer pressure, emotions, and what it means to become their fullest selves as Jewish teens. In a warm and supportive VT community, they will build confidence, strengthen self-awareness, and discover that Jewish life can help them feel grounded, proud, and connected.

Led by Rabbi Alex Tansky, Director of Education, including Jewish arts learning with Stephanie Luxenberg throughout the year.

Meets every other week, $500/year

The Village Temple will be offering a new, college-level fellowship for high school teens for college credit every year.  In partnership with the Jewish Learning Experience program of American Jewish University, this year we're offering:

JST 313: Understanding Israel: Its History, Culture and People

The goal is to learn and engage deeply about Israel to prepare you for high-level conversations about Israel in high school, college and beyond. 

From the program: We are thrilled that you are interested in enrolling in a class that is part of American Jewish University’s Jewish Learning Experience. Our start date for the first class at The Village Temple is September 23rd. This is the first of 16 sessions throughout the year, meeting on every-other Wednesday evening, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. (pizza dinner will be included at 6pm). The last date will be a preparation for the Confirmation service. The Wednesday evening dates thereafter will be:

October 7 & 21; November 4 &18; December 2 & 16; January 6 & 20; February 3 & 24; March 10 & 24; April 7; May 5 & 19; and June 2

Please complete your registration at least two weeks prior to the first class to ensure access to the course materials.

For both new and returning students, please note:

1.      You will need to upload a copy of your high school transcript (for 9th graders, a middle school transcript) so please have that available before starting the form.  

2.      The $90, non-refundable Application Fee must be paid as part of this registration form. You will have the opportunity to submit payment information on the final page of the form for tuition to American Jewish University.   

[After completing your initial form, your welcome email will provide a link to apply for Financial Assistance, if that is something you need in order to participate in this program.  

Please note that AJU has a limited amount of Financial Assistance and it will be allotted on a first come, first served basis.]
